There is more to war than military parades, medals, battles, and glory. You don't just put on a uniform, jump on an airplane, go over to another land and shoot it up for a while then come home and sit around telling war stories over a beer. For the man and woman who is actually there it will carry on a lifetime. Most will carry the changes and feelings inside and you will never know they are there. But there are those who show their wounds with scars and missing limbs.
The person who goes to war is never the same one who comes home. Those who have never been there will most likely never understand. However, we must never forget that that these people returning are still our husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, neighbors and friends. We must work to welcome them home. We must recognize that they are still fighting a war. And we must enclose them with our love and unconditional appreciation. Only then can the healing begin.
