    WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP

For the first six months of 2010 we have the following things pending:

January - 15 quilts to accompany medals from Veterans' Pow Wow

    January-Fundraiser/silent auction

February- 50 quilts Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 17

February-20 quilts State Viet Nam Veterans of America conference

March- National Quilt Day with Henderson Public Library - decorate squares (signing event)

    March-12 quilts Buffalo Soldiers

March-165 quilts for returning veterans and wounded warriors

April - 475 quilts for the 1- 221 Cav National Guard returning home

Mid May to mid June-Art show at the Las Vegas Arts district

The first count we have is for more than 740 quilts by the end of April. And we still have the art show for 4 weeks from mid May to mid June...Memorial Day included. For the year of 2009 we made and presented a little more than 800 quilts. So you can see our dilemma.

We desperately need approximately 20,000 yds of fabric and 185 king size 3 oz sheets of batting. In addition we also need fabric pens, thread and paints. We also invite other artists and seamstresses and quilters to work with us.

Since its inception everything has been donated by the founders of Moms Love Quilts. Until recently there has been no support from outside. But the project has grown to the point that this is no longer possible. The expense is far beyond our poor resources. WE MUST APPEAL TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR THEIR HELP.

To continue this project we MUST have help. Without it the project is in danger of dying. And with its death the work of healing and educating will vanish. Who else is there even trying to do what Moms Love Quilts is doing and desire so much to continue doing?

Our veterans are sacrificing their finances, their lives and the future of their families. How, by any stretch of the imagination, can our people sit idly by and not do anything to show gratitude and appreciation. These men and women are not asking for anything. They are giving without any expectations from our nation beyond the miserly pay that they are grudgeingly given.

The government can not do this job. No other organization has even attempted to do what we do. And without our community behind us and supporting us we will not be able to do so either. You must join with us and show that the people of this nation love and appreciate our veterans....not the Department of Defense, not General Motors, Not Fox television.....it must be a grass roots effort of our people.

Please join with us. We are a nonprofit organization under the laws of the State of Nevada. We are able to accept donations of materials and money. We need these materials desperately and immediately. If you are unable to donate materials then gift cards to Joannes, Michaels and other fabric stores local to Las Vegas are just as precious. Of course monetary donations are welcome, but not mandatory. If you are local to Las Vegas and unable to bring these things to us we will come to you and pick them up. You can also send them to:

We will issue receipts for all donations for your records.

PLEASE, WE NEED YOU TO JOIN US AND CONTINUE THIS EFFORT OF LOVE AND APPRECIATION. DO NOT LET IT DIE!!!

  • KLAV radio show

    February 10th 2010
We will be joining our favorite radio show "STILL SERVING" on KLAV radio 1230 AM at 7 pm.  "Tiny" is intimately knowledgeable about the state of veterans affairs in Southern Nevada, the people active in promoting the welfare of our veterans and the many organizations and people who recognize the debt this nation owes our veterans.  He regularly presents guests who represent these various organizations and is an invaluable source of information and guidance to those who can assist our heroes.  The program is sponsored by the American Legion Paradise Post 149.  Moms Love Quilts is honored to be included with this program and these wonderful folks.  Be sure and catch us this Wednesday and don't miss the show every Wednesday night at 7 pm.

  • I Love Veterans Signing event

    February 12th, Friday
We will be sponsoring an art square decorating event for all ages at the Henderson GreenValley Library branch (Sunset and Green Valley Parkway), 2 pm until 4 pm.  Please plan to attend.  This is your chance to send your expressions of recognition and thanks to our veterans, past and those of the present who will be returning from Iraq and Afghanistan within the next few months.  They have given more than a year of  their lives, fortune and blood for us.  It is little to ask that we recognize this and give them  the honor that they have earned.

  • National Quilt Month

    March 20th 2010
March is National Quilt Month and the Henderson Library system has invited us to join in the observances by sponsoring an event at the Green Valley branch of the Henderson Library, 2797 North  Green Valley Parkway in Henderson.  It will last all day.  We will have an art square decorating event for the children and anyone else who wishes to make squares for the quilts and a display of some of the quilts that will be presented to our veterans.

We invite and encourage everyone to drop in and participate.  We will also be there to answer your questions and explain the unwritten contract between our protectors and our citizens.  Seize this opportunity to send your gratitude and support to our heroes.

  • In the Works

    TBA
We also have several happenings coming up that are yet to be firmed up as to exact dates, times and details.  Here are some to watch for.  As we are able to confirm details we will post them as appropriate.  Keep checking for updates and turn out with us.

Viet Nam Veterans of America, Chapter 17...we will be presenting quilts to Veterans who have waited far too long for this recognition and acknowledgement of their service.

The Buffalo Soldiers...March.  We wish to honor the memory of a group that many have never known of but are as deserving of honor as every man and woman who has ever served this nation.

We have the redeployment home of local Nevada National Guard units through this summer.  We will be presenting 650 quilts to our men and women upon their return. We will also be presenting information regarding this as it becomes available.  And when you encounter one of these heroes, please thank them and shake their hand.  They have earned this honor.

We also have the Art Display at the Fallout Gallery for a full month this Spring.  Open date and times are TBD.  We will also be holding several activities and events during the show.  We consider this to be a unique honor.  It is a recognition of the talents of our artists and our seamstresses.  It is also a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to get our message out and to gather more support from all corners of the community.  Please make plans to attend and support us during our show.
