Quilts for Veterans

Intertribal Pow Wow 2009

The 2009 Intertribal Pow Wow took place November 14th and 15th.  The photos are slowly coming in and as we get them they will be posted.  We especially look forward to the magnificent work of Mr. Mickey Cox, the official Intertribal Pow Wow photographer.  We also invite any others who took photos at the Pow Wow to send them to us for inclusion here.

Overall, it was a memorable weekend.  The Intertribal Council were the most gracious and patient hosts that you could ever ask for.  They went out of their way to assist and to promote not just Moms Love Quilts, but all the vendors.  The ceremonies were emotionally charged because they indeed came from the heart and the soul.  The dancers danced as if their ancestors were watching and, if they were watching, have to be proud of their sons, daughters and generations beyond.

Judging from the emotions of all participants, the presentation of the Medals of Valor and the Quilts was received in the spirit meant.  It was the recognition of the gifts our veterans have given us, the cost  they paid and our rededication to never squander those gifts.  Again, the feelings of our veterans for this simple act is the reason we do it.  They don't do it for money, they don't do it because they are forced to.  They do it because of who they are and what is in their hearts, souls and spirits.  They do it because this is who they are.  Our recognition of this has more meaning to them than any Congressional resolution or medal they proudly display.  It comes from real people and not just a faceless bureaucracy.  It is our people coming together.
